Siang Hong: Died when a bus slammed into him after he lost control of his motorcycle.

ALOR STAR: A student who scored 8As in last year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination has been killed in a road accident.

It is learnt Low Siang Hong, of SMK Keat Hwa, was on his way home on Tuesday evening when he tried to overtake a bicycle in Jalan Bendahara but lost control of his motorcycle and fell on the road.

A schoolbus which was behind Siang Hong, 18, then slammed into him.

His father Low Shee Heong, 66, a retiree, said he last saw his youngest son at 7am that day when the boy was leaving for school.

“He was a very obedient child and hardworking. We were proud of him when he got good results in the SPM. Now my son is gone.

“I never imagined that his life would end this way. My son did not have any problem at home and also in school.

“Please do not ask me further because I cannot bear with this pain,” he said when met at the Alor Star Hospital mortuary here.

Siang Hong, from Lorong Shariff here, suffered severe head injuries. He died on the way to the Alor Star Hospital.

Kota Star district traffic chief Deputy Supt Nazlan Idris said the schoolbus could not avoid running over the boy.

“The bus driver only lodged a report at 9.20pm after sending the schoolchildren home,” he said.

In another accident, Harun Hashim, 35, from Kampung Megat Dewa, Kodiang, died when the lorry he was driving rammed into a stalled trailer.

Harun was a lorry attendant, but on Tuesday he asked permission from lorry driver Azmi Mat Aris to drive the vehicle.

He lost control of the lorry, which was laden with cooking gas cylinders, and eventually rammed into the back of a trailer parked on the right side of the Changloon-Pauh road at 6.05pm.

Harun had injuries on his stomach and both legs while Azmi, who was seated beside him, suffered minor injuries.

Kubang Pasu district public order chief Assistant Supt Mohd Khairi Mohd Kamil said it was the first time Harun had driven the lorry.

He said Harun died on the way to Jitra Hospital.

More than 100 students, sadness etched on their faces, filed past the body of Low Siang Hoong today.

His friends from Sekolah Menengah Keat Hwa (1) bade him farewell at a Siamese temple in Jalan Telok Wanjah here.

Siang Hoong, who had attended the school from Form One to Lower Six, died in an accident on Tuesday.

He was run over by a schoolbus after he lost control and fell off his motorcycle along Jalan Tanjong Bendahara.


The 18-year-old, who scored eight As in last year’s SPM examination, was returning home from school at the time.

His father Low See Yong, 66, who was devastated by the death of the youngest of his seven children, asked to be left alone to mourn when approached by reporters.

Among those present were Siang Hoong’s 31 classmates of Lower Six Science Three and school principal Chow Lai Hing. They had come in a bus chartered by the school’s parent-teacher association.

An ex-classmate, who wanted to be known as Wong, said Siang Hoong was an especially bright student who seemed to grasp things easily.

"We used to be envious of him as he would understand theories in a split second while we were still grappling with the ideas.

"He excelled in studies but he was not too proud to help any of us. And he was not a bookworm. He loved to play football," the student said.

His mathematics teacher, who wished to be identified only as Tan, said it was a joy teaching Siang Hoong as he was a fast learner.

"We’ve lost a good boy. He was active, dutiful and helpful in class.

"He mixed well with others in class and he never gave me any problems," Tan said.

Siang Hoong was later cremated at a Buddhist temple in Padang Sera.

low siang hong is very known by fellow friends with his great football skill . he has a great pair of legs which is astonishingly fast and his skills are awesome . no matter his speed or his skill of carrying the ball , he is too perfect for our age and there is no challenger in our school . his perfect skill is good enough and there is almost no challenger in our school . during the lastest 2005 sixth form football match , he managed to help his class L6S3 by scoring 2 goals and managed to be a great game maker as well . his alliance with the class footballers has brought the class into final stage , unfortunately L6S3 lost to U6S3 in the end.

with respect too , he is good in terms of study as well . teachers love him for his hardworking attitude . and what makes him so great is his great hardworking attitude in learning and solving problems , especially his best and favourite subject , mathematic which he is the best at . at the same time , he is also great in the other subjects , chemistry , physic ... besides , what make teacher so love him is that he is not only hardworking and willing to pay attention in class , but his respect to the teachers , he is a quiet boy and never disturb the teacher , plus his humour sense which brought fun and joy among friends and cheers up the study enviroment .

with respect to our late friend , low siang hong . his gone is deeply sorrow in everyone's heart , the sorrow will not be forgotten , his present will never be left out , and his spirit is never going to end and he will always be in our heart our mind . no matter what , the fact is there , although he left us earlier . but his soul will always bless us .
